Beds in the Garden

Raised Beds in the Rental Garden

The Inglewood Community Garden (ICG) hosts two distinct types of beds for vegetable gardening: raised beds, in wooden boxes above-ground, and in-ground beds.

The ICG maintains 121 raised beds in the Rental Garden [see tab below] on the north side of the site.

  • The majority of the Rental Garden beds are available to rent. However, in any one season 6 to 10 of our raised beds are donated to local Community Service Organizations.

The ICG also maintains (somewhere around … I lost count) 83 in-ground beds in the Communal Garden [see tab below] on the south side of the site.

  • The Communal Garden beds are not for rent, they are planted, tended and harvested cooperatively, and the majority of the produce donated to community service organizations.

Additionally, the ICG maintains a variety of Ancillary Beds [see tab below] comprising memorial, floral and native species plantings.

The ICG conducts Rental Programs in the Autumn and in the Spring, for details of these programs please see our webpage … Rentals

Rental Garden Beds

There are 121 raised beds for rent in the Rental Garden in the northern portion of the ICG.

Dimensions are expressed as: Width x Length x Height or Square Area (per bed)

108 Standard Beds
 Metric dimensions are: 1.22m X 3.66m x 0.36m or 4.46 sq. m
 Imperial dimensions are: 4′ x 12′ x 14.25″ or 5.3 sq. yds

12 Accessible Beds — taller and narrower for easier access
 Metric Dimensions for beds 106 to 110 are: 0.91m X 3.66m x 0.55m or 3.35 sq. m
 Imperial Dimensions for beds 106 to 110 are: 3′ x 12′ x 21.75″ or 4 sq. yds.

 Metric Dimensions for beds 113 to 118 and 121 are: 1.07m X 3.66m x 0.55m or 3.9 sq. m
 Imperial Dimensions for beds 113 to 118 and 121 are: 3’6″ x 12′ x 21.75″ or 4.67 sq. yds.

… and if those options do not satisfy your need to garden there is 0.18 hectare (0.44 acre) of communal garden that never seems to get enough attention!

For those of you doing the ‘math’ — “yes” — there is one more raised bed in the Rental Garden.

Bed #49 — is too small to rent and for years Humphrey has been planting it for the school children from Piitoyais Family School, next door, to enjoy.
 Metric dimensions for Bed #49 are: 1.22m X 3.05m x 0.36m or 3.72 sq. m
 Imperial dimensions for Bed #49 are: 4′ x 10′ x 14.25″ or 4.44 sq. yds
 Thanks, Hump.

Rental Not Required

I would just like to garden ...

You do not have to rent a bed to be able to garden in the Inglewood Community Garden — you are welcome to volunteer in the ICG’s Communal Garden or in whichever capacity matches your interests and abilities: Please see our Volunteer page for details.

However, in order to do any gardening or work by yourself in the Inglewood Community Garden there are two things you have to do first:

  1. You must complete and submit the Inglewood Community Garden Personal Liability Waiver — which you can read here Personal Liability Waiver

  2. You must attend an In-person Orientation program in the garden.

... but if you do choose to rent
